New Shortcross Gin edition from Rademon in Northern Ireland
Rademon Estate Distillery in Northern Ireland has launched an innovative edition of its multi-award winning small batch Shortcross Gin to its impressive portfolio of premium gins.
The new Shortcross edition (42%ABV) is aged in Orange Cognac Liqueur casks for almost three years at the state-of-the-art distillery near Crossgar in county Down.
Master distiller David Boyd Armstrong, who founded the distillery with wife Fiona, the managing director, in 2012 says “the spirit compounds from the casks produces an added layer of flavour to our gin”.
He continues: “This is the longest we have ever aged a gin in a cask and we think it might also be the longest gin has been matured in a cask.
“This edition makes for a sipping gin or can be enjoyed in a classic G&T or in a white negroni,” adds Mr Boyd Armstrong.
Tasting notes suggests “fresh, tangy blood oranges peel away to reveal deep chocolate notes and subtle vanilla. Citrus dominates and creates a clean and inviting nose”.
The new gin is the latest development of the small batch gins from Rademon Distillery. The company launched a five-strong range of bottled gin cocktails late last year in its longstanding focus on developing new and original offerings for gin lovers in the UK, Republic of Ireland and further afield.
The company has also become a significant exporter of gins and currently ships to around 30 countries.
In 2015, the Distillery laid down the first casks of a new Irish Shortcross premium whiskey, the first bottles of which are expected to be released later in 2021.
