That Protein’s high protein porridge backed for digestion issues

Organic high protein porridge from That Protein, the multi-award winning innovator and producer of plant-based superfood powders in Northern Ireland, has recently achieved low FODMAP certification for its porridge as suitable for sufferers of IBS and other digestion issues.

The important certification That Protein (www.thatprotein.com) for its natural oat-based porridge product follows rigorous independent testing by FODMAP dietary experts.

The low FODMAP certification for the organic porridge is the third achieved by the small Northern Ireland business for its products. It became the first in the UK last year to gain FODMAP approval for its award winning Blissful Raw Cacao Organic Super Protein.  The company’s Chirpy Chirpy Choca Mocha Super Protein product subsequently gained the accreditation.

Darlene McCormick, That Protein’s founder and managing director, commenting on the accreditation says: “We are thrilled to receive this endorsement by dietary specialists in extensive laboratory tests for our new organic porridge which has been designed in response to the increasing number of people suffering from IBS and other digestion issues.

“The double choc protein porridge is a specially developed blend of organic oats, plant protein, raw cacao, cacao nibs and the sweet superfood palmyra nectar and boasts a raft of health benefits including helping build and maintain muscle mass. It also reduces tiredness and fatigue and is high in fibre which is important as the daily fibre target is 30g a day,” Darlene, who studied plant-based nutrition at Cornell University in the US, adds.

She spotted the opportunity for such a different product from statistics showing that one in five people in UK suffer with IBS and gut problems like bloating.

“Low FODMAP endorsement is a very timely development and will support our marketing drive for the porridge which has been proving extremely popular since its launch last year. The porridge has been attracting substantial interest especially from health food stores,” she says

That Protein’s Blissful Double Choc Protein Porridge is the latest in a series of plant-based protein products developed by the Belfast-based specialist in superfood powders. Many of these superfood products have won prestigious Nourish Awards for the quality and innovation.

The company won a Nourish UK award for the third successive year last year. It gained Nourish awards for separate products in 2018 and 2019 in what is regarded as one of the world’s most important and toughest awards for healthy foods.

The new protein porridge is suitable for vegans, is totally plant-based, high in plant protein, fibre and energising B vitamin.

A qualified clinical nutritionist with a successful background in marketing and publicity, Darlene set up That Protein in 2014 on the back of a long-time dedication to a vegetarian diet.  She has created the recipes for all her product range.

Low FODMAP is an acronym for low fermentable, oligosaccharides (fructans and GOS), disaccharides (lactose), monosaccharides (fructose) and polyols. The diet has been designed to help people with a medical diagnosis of IBS.

A study found that around 3/4 of those who follow the diet reported an improvement of the symptoms of IBS which include bloating, gas and gastrointestinal pain.
