Three Awards for Mourne Mountains Brewery

Mourne Mountains Brewery in Warrenpoint, county Down has brought the year to an end by winning major awards for their beers at a national brewing event.

Session IPA, Bear Grease Double Oatmeal Stout and Mourne Mist Pilsner have picked up gold, silver and bronze respectively at the SIBA Independent Beer Awards 2021 - the UK’s leading beer competition judged by brewers, beer sommeliers and expert tasters. The Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) is an organisation that represents small independent breweries.

The Mourne Mountains team is especially proud of achieving a gold award for the small brewery’s tropical and juicy Session IPA, which has immediately become a favourite amongst customers since its first release back in August.

Bear Grease is a seasonal beer that makes its return each year coming into the colder autumn months; a full bodied and sweet stout, perfect for an evening by the fire.

Mourne Mist Pilsner is a crisp and refreshing lager that has been brewed at Mourne Mountains Brewery from the very start and continues to add to its impressive history of winning awards.

Head brewer Gareth McGivern says: “We take inspiration from the epic Mourne landscape that surrounds us and have an “off the beaten track” approach to our brewing, producing beers that are full of flavour and diverse in style and strength. The environment is incredibly important to us, as we source our most valuable ingredient from it and that’s the beautifully soft water coming from the Mourne Mountains. As a small business, winning awards like this is huge and we thank everyone for the continued support.”

Mourne Mountains Brewery was formed in 2015 by local businessman Connaire McGreevy.
