Lidl NI’s Trolley Dash for Age NI Returns

Lidl Northern Ireland has teamed up with former world champion boxer Carl Frampton to launch the return of the retailer’s much loved Trolley Dash charity fundraising initiative which will see 42 lucky shoppers across the region win a supermarket sweep style dash around the store to bag a festive feast this Christmas.

Returning for its 10th year, shoppers across the region can be in with the chance to win a spot on the dash in their local Lidl Northern Ireland store by picking up a Trolley Dash ticket at the till point for just £1, with all proceeds going directly to Lidl Northern Ireland’s new charity partner Age NI.

Lidl Northern Ireland last week announced its new charity partnership with Age NI which aims to address challenges facing the older population, promote Age NI’s services and make a meaningful difference to older people across the region.

Throughout its partnership with the charity, Lidl Northern Ireland will work to amplify and address the challenges faced by older people in Northern Ireland whilst delivering a range of community-based initiatives and fundraising to support Age NI’s mission to make Northern Ireland a better place for older people to live.

Lidl Northern Ireland has also committed to raising £500,000 in funds for Age NI over the next three years and, as its first fundraising activity,

Trolley Dash is set to give the new partnership a significant boost.

Since launching in 2015, Lidl Northern Ireland’s Trolley Dash has raised more than £785,000 in funds for its charity partners, with Trolley Dashers also taking home thousands of pounds worth of Lidl’s award-winning festive food and treats to enjoy over the festive season.

Former world champion boxer, Carl Frampton, who is supporting Lidl Northern Ireland and Age NI with the launch of the new partnership, said: “I’m delighted to launch Lidl Northern Ireland’s Trolley Dash campaign for Christmas 2024, in aid of Age NI. It’s great to see this new partnership already make an impact locally with 42 lucky customers getting the chance to win their Christmas shop and have some fun along the way.

As a boxer, I know what it’s like to only have two minutes on the clock to get the job done, so my advice to Trolley Dashers is to be light on your feet in order to get round the aisles in time to bag your favourite treats and to be prepared and go in with a strategy to make the most of the dash.

Christmas is a special time of year when older people need that extra care and support and I’m proud to do my bit to help promote Age NI’s mission and the work they do in supporting older people in Northern Ireland. So, this Christmas, I’d encourage everyone to get down to their local Lidl Northern Ireland store, buy a Trolley Dash ticket and do your bit to support this incredible charity. Best of luck to everyone in the draw!”

Lidl Northern Ireland Sales Operations Director Sarah McKenna, saidTrolley Dash is the flagship charity fundraising initiative in the calendar and every year our team of over 1,300 employees get behind it to raise as much funds as possible for our charity partner. This year, we’re even more excited as it also marks our first fundraiser for Age NI, our brand-new charity partner.

Last Christmas, our customers helped raise more than £80,000 through Trolley Dash and this year we hope to smash that target and deliver our biggest fundraiser yet. As a family retailer, we’re very proud to support Age NI and to show our support and commitment to older people across the region. Trolley Dash is the perfect way to kick off this new partnership and start us off on our mission to raise £500,000 for Age NI over the next three years.”

Linda Robinson, Chief Executive Officer of Age NI, said: “We are thrilled to launch our first Trolley Dash initiative with Lidl Northern Ireland and be part of what is such a heartwarming community initiative which not only rewards shoppers, but raises a significant amount of funds to enable us to continue delivering much needed services in support of older people across Northern Ireland.

“Our involvement with Trolley Dash also provides a valuable opportunity to promote our key message - ‘Let’s change how we age’. By aligning our mission with a fun and exciting initiative like Trolley Dash and working with Carl Frampton, who is kindly supporting this new partnership, we want to challenge people to think differently about ageing and bring our message to new and younger audiences.

“Over the next two weeks, I hope that every Lidl Northern Ireland shopper picks up a Trolley Dash ticket in support of this brilliant new partnership and I wish everyone the very best of luck in securing a spot on the dash!”
