The Cookie Jar Home Bakery was founded by James and Jean Herron in 1965 in Newcastle. Having moved from their homeland of Rathfriland, to open a grocery Shop in Newcastle. Jean (Or Granny as I called her) was a keen baker, armed with her mothers’ recipes and techniques, supplemented the grocery shops stock with her handmade soda and Wheaten breads. In time it became less of a grocery shop and more a bakery, and so the Cookie Jar was born in 1965. She called it Cookie Jar as she liked the sound of the name.

The business eventually came to my father, Trevor, who left his early career as a joiner to carry on the family business. Working tirelessly with my Mum, Ann, opening new coffee shop premises making a total of 2 Newcastle shops and a few wholesale orders. The business is now entering its 3rd generation with myself and my family, and we want to introduce our new range of bread mixes for you to bake at home.
