  • Fivemiletown Creamery buys new cheese business

    Fivemiletown Creamery, Northern Ireland’s oldest speciality cheese company, has acquired the Causeway Cheese Company as part of its business growth strategy.

    The acquisition of Causeway Cheese Company, a producer of handmade waxed cheddar cheeses and also based in Northern Ireland, was completed by Fivemiletown Creamery earlier in the month.

  • Historic Irish potato revived by leading processor

    A potato variety associated with the Irish famine in the 1840s has been revived by Northern Irish processor Glens of Antrim Potatoes as part of a new heritage range.

    The company, based at Cushendall in County Antrim, has launched the Irish Lumper, a potato that has not been grown in Ireland since the devastating potato famine.

  • Fivemiletown's new premium ice cream tastes international success

    Fivemiletown Creamery, the innovative Northern Irish dairy business, has launched a delicious range of seven premium ice creams and two low fat sorbets. One of the new ice creams was recently nominated for a major global award for innovation at the big dairy industry event in Oslo, Sweden. The company’s unique strawberry and balsamic cheesecake ice cream was recognised in the ‘Best Ice Cream’ category in the International Dairy Innovation Awards.
  • Historic Irish Gaol to become a Whiskey Distillery

    Belfast Distillery Company (BDC) is to produce premium Irish whiskey in part of the city’s historic Crumlin Road Gaol that closed its doors to prisoners in 1996.

    BDC has announced that it has acquired the Victorian gaol from the Northern Ireland Executive and plans to develop a ?5million boutique distillery, the first to be built in Belfast for 175 years. The project is expected to provide around 60 new jobs.

    Europe’s first Himalayan Wall of Salt for ageing beef commercially has been installed by Hannan Meats, the award-winning Northern Irish meat processor.

    Hannan Meats, based at Moira in County Down and a major supplier of meat to leading hotels and high-end restaurants in Northern Ireland, London and other UK cities, is using the 12ft high solid wall of rock salt bricks to offer foodservice clients dry-aged beef with an exceptional flavour.
