    Award winning corned beef from McCartney’s in Northern Ireland has been launched in Britain by Selfridges in central London.

    The unique corned beef from the Northern Ireland butchery business, voted Supreme Champion in the recent final of the UK Guild of Fine Food’s Great Taste Awards, is now on sale in the store’s renowned Food Hall in Oxford Street.
  • Northern Ireland takes UK Baker of the Year title

    Northern Ireland’s Robert Ditty has won the prestigious UK Baker of the Year title in the 2011 Baking Industry Awards.
    The panel of judges described Ditty, who owns two home bakeries in Castledawson and Magherafelt, both based in County Londonderry, as a “beacon in the industry” and a real example of a hands-on baker, whose strong personality is indelibly stamped on his business.
  • Lough Neagh Eels first to win EU protection

    Northern Ireland’s Lough Neagh eels have become the region’s first food to win EU protected legal status against imitators.

    The EU decision puts the eels, from the largest wild eel fishery in Europe, on a par with French champagne, Melton Mowbray pork pies, Cornish pasties, Parma ham, Gorgonzola and Camembert de Normandie.

    Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster has congratulated McCartney’s butchery business in Moira on being named the UK Supreme Food Champion at a gala banquet in London last night.

    The family butchers was named as Supreme Champion for its handmade Corned Beef in the final stage of the Great Taste Awards for 2011. It is the first time the Supreme Champion food award has been won by a Northern Ireland company.

    The company, which recently clinched a deal with DJ Wetherspoon, the UK pub chain, for its handcrafted ciders, will be marketing its products for the first time in the Republic of Ireland.
