The Copeland Distillery was originally founded by Gareth Irvine in the Summer of 2016. Copeland is situated along the Ards Peninsula in the quaint town of Donaghadee, just a stone’s throw away from The Copeland Islands.

Following months of consultation and 10 months of construction work, Copeland have moved into their new 6,500 Sq foot distillery during Summer 2019. Copeland is now home to three Irish gins, including their flagship Classic Style Irish Gin which features 12 carefully selected botanicals, including Naval Orange and local flora Sea Pink Maritima.

The Copeland Distillery was built on four core values, history, heritage, community and emotion. Copeland are creating coastal spirits that reflect the heroic and tragic events that occurred throughout the history of The Copeland Islands and surrounding area. The team at Copeland are resurfacing the stories of the courageous folk who both fought and lost their lives in their somewhat uncharted piece of land.

Copeland’s focus is to continue creating premium first class spirits alongside the production of their Whiskey Cask Reserve Program, The 125. Copeland have signed a 125-year lease on the newly regenerated distillery building which was once an old picture-house. Copeland’s goal is to increase the number of stills by 2 and increase production across all product ranges. With a number of exclusive one-off projects in the pipeline too, Copeland certainly have enough to keep them occupied.

Aside from the making of their spirits, Copeland has built a bespoke visitor centre offering audiences the chance to experience distillery life on a guided tasting tour, and you can do so by booking this via their website.

Copeland Gin is a unique handcrafted infusion of locally sourced fruits combined with our own premium gin. The botanicals in our base gin have been carefully selected to complement the local fruit botanicals which we source from the fields of County Down. The result is a natural 'ginfusion' which not only tastes great but has the added benefit of supporting local farmers and producers.

Handcrafted in small batches in Saintfield, County Down, Copeland Gin encompasses the quality you'd expect from an artisan product with flavour combinations that surprise and excite.

In February 19 the company announced it has received planning permission from Ards & North Down Borough Council for a 6,500 sq ft distillery and visitor centre to develop its existing gin range and move into new markets, including whiskey, as part of a 125-year lease.
